BITBARS are ordinal inscriptions precisely engineered to exact weights of solid computation. They are beautiful chunks of Bitcoin block space preserved forever on the blockchain. The first BITBARS were inscribed on February 10th, 2023 and are the first conceptual art piece in the ordinal space.
At present, there are over 40MB of bitbars of various sizes inscribed to the Bitcoin blockchain, making BITBARS one of the largest ordinal collections measured by block size at present.
There are 3 sub collections of classic bitbars.
Sub #100k: BITBARS GENESIS
1000 x 1kB BITBARS
Sub #1MM: BITBARS MEGA
3000 x 1kB BITBARS
BITBARS COLLECTION
999 x BITBARS (111 x each of the 9 BITBAR weights)
Ordinals are "inscriptions"; extra data stored on the blockchain and associated with a single satoshi (or "sat"), the smallest denomination of Bitcoin. This data can be text, images or other media. The ordinals protocol dictates that when a sat is transferred, ownership of any associated inscription is also transferred. Basically, NFTs for Bitcoin.
BITBARS were created by long-time collaborators, Dev and dxxmsdxy. They've been building on blockchain since 2013 and have long histories innovating in the space.
Dev is a seasoned web3 developer, educator, founder of one of the earliest crypto meetup communities, and a contributor to the original 2016 Rare Pepes Collection with the first AI generated NFT art.
dxxmsdxy is an accomplished artist and product designer, and as one of the earliest artists and designers in crypto, has some obscure achievements like writing the first crypto fanfic, designing the first NFT wallet, designing the alternate Ethereum logo during ETH testnet, creating one of the first NFTs in early 2014, having their work cited in the Senate as an early argument against the premature regulation of crypto, and so on.
In short, they've both been around.
